Brewer: Leinenkugel’s

Origin: Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, USA

One of my favorite candies is Fanny Farmers Molasses Chews. There are very few in a box of chocolates, and it’s one that I go for first. In fact, I custom ordered a box of just those from Fanny Farmers one time. Leinenkugel’s Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout reminds me of the molasses chew flavor. It’s a beer that is syrupy dark with a dark tan head. It’s got a sweetness that compliments the darkness with hints of molasses, black licorice, espresso and other complex dark flavors.

This is a heavy and filling beer and one that I have to say I really, really enjoy. You wouldn’t want more than one of these in a sitting, but you could enjoy this beer with a chocolate dessert or a Maduro wrapped cigar. It’s not for the faint of heart. Brewed with 11 malts and very light on the hops, I give this beer our coveted Large Stein. I would definitely keep this on hand for a once-in-a-while nightcap beer. Kudos to Leinies for this malty liquid molasses chew!
