Well, I had this beer in the fridge and have been wanting to try it for some time now. While it’s a bit late in the season for a wheat beer, I decided to try a hefeweizen from Harpoon Brewing out of Boston MA. Well, This one is called UFO Unfiltered Wheat Beer and well… it tasted a bit alien to me. Now, if you aren’t into hefeweizen beers, this one may be OK to you but I enjoy then and this beer left me wanting something with more substance and flavor. This isn’t a bad beer, it just isn’t a great beer. It is a bit cloudy as it should be as an unfiltered wheat and is orangish in color. You pick up a bit of citrus in the aroma but not like you would with a good German hefeweizen. It finishes a bit flat for me, although there is plenty of carbonation, it’s just kind of empty. This could be a good transitional beer for those trying to check out the craft beer world. But, this UFO crashes to the ground for me and is begging, ‘take me to your leader’ (which would be something like Weihenstephaner). Not a bad choice, but I wouldn’t go too far out of my way.
